Rory Bannerman

Partner

My name is Rory Bannerman and I have been working for Bannerman Burke for over 30 years in our Hawick office.

I undertake a number of extra roles throughout Scotland in tribunals and as a part-time Summary Sheriff but always remember my roots and I am in the Hawick office at least three days a week dealing with all ranges of client issues.

My interests are family, sport and music.

Heidi Kandyba-Callis

Partner

I joined Bannerman Burke Law in 2017 and became a partner in 2020.

I deal with all types of property work and have expertise in commercial and residential conveyancing, working with both business and private clients.

I have a particular interest in rural & agricultural work and also deal with general chamber work such as transfers of title, Wills and Powers of Attorney.

Outside of work, I enjoy horse riding and in particular eventing.

Steven Robertson

Partner

Steven is a skilled and experienced litigator having trained with a large Glasgow firm and thereafter operating in various legal roles across Scotland before coming to Bannerman Burke Law.

Throughout his career, he has been happy to represent clients in the Scottish Borders as well as the central belt, and beyond, to ensure that everything is done to reach the outcome they are seeking. He deals, in the main, with family law matters and is experienced in all aspects of family law, including divorce and separation, cohabitation agreements, cohabitation claims and issues relating to the care of children, including residence and contact.

In addition to his family law work, Steven undertakes a wide range of civil litigation, including commercial work; contract; debt recovery and reparation.

Steven also deals with all aspects of wills, powers of attorney and executries as well as having experience in dealing with property matters and transfer of title transactions.

Steven prides himself in progressing cases with the utmost understanding and sensitivity, whilst also prioritising the swift conclusion of matters for clients in an efficient and cost-effective manner. In his spare time Steven enjoys playing golf.

Val Umpherston

I joined BBL in August 2006 working directly for Rory and covering all admin duties including filing and preparing files for court.

In my spare time I enjoy walking, cycling, highland hustle, watching tv and films and spending time with friends and family.

Sharon Brogan

I have worked for Bannerman Burke Law (formerly Thomas Purdom & Sons) for 30 years. I started in the firm as Assistant Cashier working alongside Irene Scott who taught me everything I know about the job when Irene retired I stepped into her shoes and became Head Cashier which I have done for many years, then I was offered the position of Office Manager. I stepped down as Head Cashier to take on the role of Office Manager. I still assist with cashroom duties alongside my Office Manager role.

Keelan Solley

I started at Bannerman Burke 6 years ago as office junior, I have had a variety of roles within the office giving me more of a background to the different types of work we provide. I am currently on reception to meet and greet all visitors. I deal with Legal Aid along with completing my business course qualifications.

Pamela Landels

I have worked for the firm of Bannerman Burke Law (formerly Thomas Purdom & Sons) since I left the school, 34 years ago! I have worked my way up in the firm starting as Office Junior, I then went on to work for the Senior Partner at the time Sandy Bannerman as his Secretary for very many years, I also completed a Paralegal course in conveyancing. I now work part time as a legal assistant to the Solicitors assisting them with Executries and Wills.

Lauren Renwick

I graduated with a Scots law degree from the University of Edinburgh in 2019 and then gained my Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Glasgow in 2020. I started with Bannerman Burke Law in November 2020 as a receptionist, and then started training to become a solicitor with the firm in February 2021. I qualified as a solicitor in March 2023. I work in the Private Client and Conveyancing departments dealing mostly with Executries, Wills, Powers of Attorney, and property transactions.

Tyisha Johnstone

I work in the conveyancing department as a residential paralegal. I am happy to assist with any residential property queries including offering on properties, the conveyancing process of buying/selling houses, discharging mortgages and transfer of titles. Before I worked at Bannerman Burke, I studied law for 5 years at Edinburgh Napier University, and then during my employment here I completed my paralegal course on residential conveyancing.

Tracey Jackson

Tracey joined the firm in 1994 as Assistant Cashier and has now progressed to the position of Cashier. She completed classes provided through The Society of Law Accountants (SOLAS) and is now a full member of the Society. As well as dealing with the day-to-day tasks of the financial side of the business she assists with preparation of the Executry accounts. Tracey has 2 dogs so enjoys walking in the local countryside and taking photographs. She also enjoys watching films, listening to music, and going to live shows & concerts.

Lisa Murphy

I have been with the firm since I left school in 2018 working for senior partner Rory Bannerman as his secretary preparing all court documents and dealing with legal aid and private clients.

Stacey Moor

I have been working at Bannerman Burke Law as a secretary since November 2021.
I originally started working in dictation for the courts and have since moved into the conveyancing department, where I will be working with purchases, sales, and transfers. Outside of work I am studying for an Honours Degree in Business Management, through which I have also touched on business and contract law.

Lynsay Moor

I began working for Bannerman Burke Law as a receptionist in July of 2022. During my time on reception, I also dealt with all Legal Aid applications as well as drafting and registering Power of Attorneys. As of January 2024, I started a new role within the company as a junior cashier and have enjoyed learning how to handle financial transactions for the business. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to music and catching up with friends.

Erin Landels

I have been with the firm since I left school in the summer of 2023. Bannerman Burke Law has always been a familiar setting for me as my mum (Pamela) has been with the firm for nearly 37 years now! When the opportunity came up, I knew I would love to be a part of the BBL team. I am currently the receptionist and enjoy greeting all our clients.

Ellen Dobbie

I started working at Bannerman Burke Law in August 2023 and have had to opportunity to work in most departments of the firm and I am now working for senior partner Rory Bannerman as his junior legal secretary preparing all court documents and dealing with legal aid and private clients.
